my 7 month old kitten was an outdoor cat, so i dont know what she was like previously. However as soon as i set her up with a litterbox, the problem has been the SMELL. the second she poops, i have to get rid of it, spray air freshener, turn on the fan, etc. and it still doesnt go away! its the most DISGUSTING odor ever. I thought it was the moist cat treats, so i switched to dry. it was fine for a day or two and now its back. I am feeding her IAms kitten food, so I really don't know what to do. Any help?
Vader and Ninja both have horrible poop!! I bought the Freshmatic Lysol Nutrair. It's on a timer so you can set it to go every 9-15-36 minutes. I really works!!

switch cat food or at least start with switching the flavor and see what happens
switch cat litter-we use tidy cat-try something with a scent blocker
switch location of the litterbox

Poo DOES stink, ;-) but it may be that your kitty has a bacterial problem in her intestines. If she doesn't have loose stool then everything is probably OK inside, but I would take a sample to your vets just to make SURE she didn't ingest something outside that is giving her an ongoing problem. I also would ask for their advice about switching food. Make certain that Kitten isn't getting into something (like plants) in your home that you don't know about. You can also get a more highly deodorant litter. I use Scoop-Away for multiple cats (I have 3) and even hubby, who is not a big cat fan, says our house doesn't smell like cats at all. I also dump the litter once a week, scrub the boxes with Pine-Sol (rinse well) and replace the litter. If she'll use it, you can try a covered box, but not all cats like the cover and she may stop using the box like my Shizzie did. Remember, if you DO change food, don't do it all of the sudden. Add a little of the new food in at a time.

Cat poop does have a smell, but yours sounds like it's beyond description! I would take the kitten to the vet and explain the problem. He/she may want you to bring in a stool sample to test for parasites or a bacterial infection. More than likely this is not what you're feeding but it's some parasites that your kitten picked up in her life outdoors. A simple antibiotic should treat it and then she won't be Miss Stinky anymore.

1) Has she been tested for worms?
2) You might consider switching her to another cat food. Ours really like Artemis and Instinct (Artemis is the less expensive of the two) but I have noticed that their poo is a little stinkier when they get the Instinct alone.

First, a trip to the vet to rule out worms or any other digestive orders would be a good idea. Next, consider switching foods. Poe and Chaucer both eat Nutro Complete Care because of the fact it controls litter box odor (guaranteed on the bag). I didn't believe it myself until I tried it! Not to mention they don't eat as much of it because it is full of good stuff, not fillers. Another thing I found is that clumping litter works better. We use the Tidy Cats Immediate Odor Control and sprinkle Baking Soda on top of it. I would be cautious about using air fresheners that spray near the litter box since you never know where your kitten will be at that moment. However, a solid gel freshener, like Citrus Magic, might give the odor control a boost, too. Also, make sure she isn't getting too many treats and getting an upset tummy. Consider getting her some pet grass to graze on, too. Good Luck!

First of all Kitten is an absolute CUTIE!
I'll say first that kitten poop is worse than adult cat poop by far. Oscar used to lay eggs that would make your eyes water and it would LINGER! I was convinced I was going to have to buy stock in Oust to survive. MOL Luckily, we've pretty much outgrown that.
Oscar has a closed litter box since we have dogs and that helps. I also changed litter to Tidy Cats Multiple even though Oscar's an only cat AND I sprinkle his litter with Arm & Hammer Cat Box odor powder (not sure of the exact name) and it works much better. I've also found that the "indoor" cat formula food helps with our stinkage issues.
I scoop out Oscar's box once and day every day religiously, and I periodically scrub it out with hot soapy water and completely change the litter.

My poop used to be stinky -- cuz I lived outdoors and ate garbaj.
Now it's MUCH better.
however, SOME cat foods produce STINKY STINKY poopies, so sloowly switch over to a diffrent brand -- wet food is good. That's all I eat now.
